One of the great pleasures of the Bernese Mountain Dog is their wonderful versatility. Originally used as multi-purpose farm dogs, we feel it is important to maintain their ability to take on a variety of useful tasks. Preserving the breed's
working heritage is both inspiring and just plain fun!
Eager to please and easy to train, our Berners love to be engaged in a number of activities, including:

backpacking/hiking

swimming

obedience work

draft work (carting)

conformation showing

agility
We don't show a great deal, preferring instead to enjoy working & training as well as having fun in the great outdoors. Beno was the second of our dogs, following in Willow's footsteps, to achieve the Versatility Award with titles in 1) showing 2) obedience & 3) drafting. This award demonstrates the versatile working abilities of the breed.

Hiking through our favourite local spots is our most regular activity. We are lucky to have access to some great parks and trails here in the Kawarthas.
